General Info

The MiG-9 in the garage.

The main purpose, usage and tactics recommendations

General play style

The MiG-9's instrument panel.

The MiG-9, as you'll find it in-game, is both a capable yet limited plane, and has its own play style. As you first unlock it, you'll notice that you have little acceleration and a low rip speed, but a ridiculous roll rate and a good turn time. The speed, as with all straight winged jets, is a given, and the acceleration is horrendous for its 8.0 BR, but it more than makes up for it in pure dogfighting ability. The tactic I use most when flying the MiG-9 is to stay low, and bait Banshees, low Meteors and other such jets into a dogfight, as the MiG with combat flaps can outturn the great majority of them. If any higher jets like the Sabre, Hunter, MiG-15/17 or (worst of all) the Venom find and dive after you, use your speed to go head on, and get off a good burst before peeling away at about .4-5 km away. Always, ALWAYS, keep your speed above 400 when not turning to engage. Failing to do so will result in unplanned and violent disassembly.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Massive firepower.
  • About equal in speed and acceleration to the P-80A (If that can be considered a plus).
  • Better turn rate than most US jets at the rank.
  • Can trick enemies into a false sense of security around such planes.
  • Has strong landing gear, making landing easy.

Cons:

  • Slow compared to British and American jets.
  • Slow turn rate compared to Meteors.
  • Slow climb rate.
  • Horrible acceleration.
  • Low Ammo.

Specifications

Armaments

  • 1 x 37 mm N-37D cannon, nose-mounted (40 rpg)
  • 2 x 23 mm NS-23 cannon, chin-mounted (80 rpg = 160 total)
