General info

The F4U-4B Corsair in the garage.

The F4U-4B Corsair is a Rank IV American naval fighter with a battle rating of 5.7. It was introduced in Update 1.71 "New E.R.A".

The main purpose, usage and tactics recommendations

General play style

This plane is a highly upgraded Corsair. With improved climb, great weaponry, and huge ammo load, it is a worthy opponent in any battle.

One should continue to use BnZ tactics with this plane. Although the climb-Rate has been upgraded, it is still recommended to side climb, as the climb rate is average at best. The 4 new AN/M3 cannon provides great firepower, and coupled with a huge ammo load (984 rounds), makes this Corsair have devastating firepower.

Tactics

Specific enemies worth noting

Japanese fighters will out-turn you, of course. You can energy fight with some Russian and German aircraft, constant maneuvering drains energy, which takes time to regain. If bottom tier, British Super Spitfires (i.e. Mk.22 & possible Mk.24) will eat your lunch.

Counter-tactics

Boom-and-Zoom preferred tactic, although energy fighting is possible against less maneuverable foes (twin-engine fighters)

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Great weaponry.
  • Guns spray, allowing non-direct shots to connect over large area.
  • Huge Ammo load.
  • average climb-rate.
  • Once spaded, good top speed, and even stock, speed is decent.
  • Great diving and energy retention.

Cons:

  • Turning is severely lacking.
  • Heavy plane, hence climb rate is not that great.
  • Guns "spray" all over the place, difficult to be accurate.
