The greatest performance upgrade from the A-5 to the C-10 is that the C-10 comes with WEP. This additional power significantly increases acceleration, allowing you to match that of the British Meteor series. It also allows for a last-resort method to escape if you happen to get jumped on.
+
* Rolled homogeneous armour (hull, gun shield, gun mantlet)
With the WEP comes with fuel management. If you opt for maximum performance by selecting 9 minutes of fuel, you will run out of fuel quickly if you choose to WEP for the entire match.
+
* Structural steel (gun breech, gun mount)

The armour on the SU-100P is best described as non-existent and although it may sometimes not trigger APHE fuses it would be unwise to rely on it in any way especially since most of your crew is exposed to MG fire and/or hullbreak mechanics.

=== Mobility ===

{{tankMobility|abMinHp= 568|rbMinHp= 354}}
 +

 +
The {{PAGENAME}} has good mobility with a top speed of 70 km/h on a flat road capable of getting you into good firing positons early-on in the battle.
 +

 +
It does benefit from neutral steering when idling but not while on the move (the unsollicited track just locks, making it more difficult to turn as you lose speed).
 +

 +
The reverse speed is good enough to enable you to disengage easily and play peek-a-boo with the enemy.

Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{{main|Name of the weapon}}</nowiki></code>. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Advise about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.'' -->
 +
{{main|D-50 (100 mm)}}
 +

 +
The main gun is a 100 mm rifled D-50 cannon, almost identical to the D-10T of the [[T-44-100]] and [[T-54 (1947)|T-54]]/[[T-55A|55]] only with a higher velocity. The armament is very powerful for its BR but lacks a fully traversable turret.
 +

 +
The open configuration of the turret gives the 100 mm an impressive 7.5 seconds reload time with an upgraded crew.

{| class="wikitable" style="text-align:center"
+
The main ammunition of the SU-100P is the BR-412 with the BR-412D variant being the most deadly with the best penetration values especially at longer distances and with only a smaller TNT filler (93.94g equivalent) compared to the BR-412B (100.1g).
 +

 +
The 3D3 smoke round can be used to provide cover for your team and block the enemy's line of sight.

<!--''Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured. Describe the armour, if there is any, also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.''-->

'''Arcade Battles''':

* No armour plating

* No armour glazing

* Critical components located at front of aircraft (fuel, pilot, engine, controls)

* More fuel tanks located in wings near fuselage

<!--''Describe the offensive armament of the aircraft, if any. Describe how effective the cannons and machine guns are in a battle, and also what belts or drums are better to use. If there is no offensive weaponry, delete this subsection.''

The '''''{{PAGENAME}}''''' is armed with:

* 4 x 7.5 mm [[MAC 1934 (7.5 mm)|MAC 1934]] machine guns (300 rpg = 1,200 total)
+
In Arcade Battles the SU-100P can be used to great effect against enemy heavy armour but the spotting mechanic greatly impacts its ability to engage from a distance without being targeted itself, especially in an uptier. It is a great way to remove enemy heavy tanks such as the German [[Tiger II (H)|Tiger II]],the American [[T29]] and the Russian [[IS-2]].
-->

<!--=== Suspended armament ===

<!--

== Usage in the battles ==

<!--''Describe the tactics of playing in an aircraft, the features of using vehicles in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''-->

Like most American props and tech, your best option to attack is Boom and Zoom. At the start of the match, fly out towards the edge of the map. Make light climbs at 2.5 degrees to 300 meters (1,000 ft) and dive down to sea level to convert it into speed. Rinse and repeat until you have reached 400 km/h (350 knots), then zoom climb at 30 degrees. Once you have slowed down to 287 km/h (250 kt), continue to climb at a solid 15-20 degrees. Optimally, you should have between 3,300 - 4,500 m (11,000 - 15,000 ft) depending on how high the highest enemy is, before turning in towards the area of conflict (continue to climb or maintain altitude). Only once you have selected a target should you dive and make your pass. Always keep your energy high, whether it be speed or altitude. Your greatest advantage is speed, as the F-80 is faster than almost every other jet at its rank.

Defensive flying and rolling scissors is an option with the hydraulic boosters upgrade, however, you risk losing too much energy, and your attacker may choose to break off and try again while you are struggling to maintain lift.
+
'''Realistic Battles''':

If you are given an awkward firing angle (e.g.: you are directly vertical to your enemy and must pull 10G+ to line up a shot) or you fail to destroy them on your first pass, slowly pull your aircraft back up into a straight vertical climb to recover as much altitude as possible. If you persist on knocking out your target, you risk crashing into the ground from control stiffening or getting strafed by another enemy because you are losing your energy in a dogfight.
+
In Realistic Battles the SU-100P can be put to great use thanks to its good mobility. It can get to great sniping positions early-on in the game, the further away from actual combat the better. The high velocity and good penetration of the BR-412D also offer a significant advantage over longer distances. The SU-100P is very susceptible to air attacks especially allied .50 cals on the [[P-47D-25|P-47]]<nowiki/>s for instance. Use your great gun to cripple the enemy team's most armoured and dangerous tanks and exploit gaps in the enemy lines to engage them from places they will not expect you to be.

===Manual Engine Control===
+
Avoid going into close-quarters engagements even if your gun and reload speed are well suited because the lack of a 360° traverse can cost you greatly.

  • Rolled homogeneous armour (hull, gun shield, gun mantlet)
  • Structural steel (gun breech, gun mount)
Armour Front (Slope angle) Sides Rear Roof
Hull 15 mm (74°) Front glacis
25 mm (31°) Radiator housing
25 mm (16°) Lower glacis - upper part
15 mm (49°) Lower glacis - lower part
15 mm
5 mm Radiator vent
8 mm (21°) 6 mm (86°) Front
6 mm (81°) Rear
Gun shield 20 mm (30°) Front
25 mm Gun mantlet (spheric)
15 mm N/A 6 mm

Notes:

  • Suspension wheels are 20 mm thick while tracks are 15 mm thick.
  • Bottom of the hull is 6 mm thick.
  • The engine is placed in front of the vehicle and can absorb shots to some extent.

The armour on the SU-100P is best described as non-existent and although it may sometimes not trigger APHE fuses it would be unwise to rely on it in any way especially since most of your crew is exposed to MG fire and/or hullbreak mechanics.

Mobility

Game Mode Max Speed (km/h) Weight (tons) Engine power (horsepower) Power-to-weight ratio (hp/ton)
Forward Reverse Stock Upgraded Stock Upgraded
Arcade 69 26 21.6 568 763 26.3 35.32
Realistic 64 24 354 400 16.39 18.52

The SU-100P has good mobility with a top speed of 70 km/h on a flat road capable of getting you into good firing positons early-on in the battle.

It does benefit from neutral steering when idling but not while on the move (the unsollicited track just locks, making it more difficult to turn as you lose speed).

The reverse speed is good enough to enable you to disengage easily and play peek-a-boo with the enemy.

Armaments

Main armament

Main article: D-50 (100 mm)

The main gun is a 100 mm rifled D-50 cannon, almost identical to the D-10T of the T-44-100 and T-54/55 only with a higher velocity. The armament is very powerful for its BR but lacks a fully traversable turret.

The open configuration of the turret gives the 100 mm an impressive 7.5 seconds reload time with an upgraded crew.

Ammunition

The main ammunition of the SU-100P is the BR-412 with the BR-412D variant being the most deadly with the best penetration values especially at longer distances and with only a smaller TNT filler (93.94g equivalent) compared to the BR-412B (100.1g).

The 3D3 smoke round can be used to provide cover for your team and block the enemy's line of sight.

Notes:

  • Each row of shells is depleted from left to right. Rows are then depleted from front to rear.
  • As they are modeled by sets of 2 or 3, shells disappear from the rack only after you've fired all shells in the set.

Usage in battles

Arcade Battles:

In Arcade Battles the SU-100P can be used to great effect against enemy heavy armour but the spotting mechanic greatly impacts its ability to engage from a distance without being targeted itself, especially in an uptier. It is a great way to remove enemy heavy tanks such as the German Tiger II,the American T29 and the Russian IS-2.

Realistic Battles:

In Realistic Battles the SU-100P can be put to great use thanks to its good mobility. It can get to great sniping positions early-on in the game, the further away from actual combat the better. The high velocity and good penetration of the BR-412D also offer a significant advantage over longer distances. The SU-100P is very susceptible to air attacks especially allied .50 cals on the P-47s for instance. Use your great gun to cripple the enemy team's most armoured and dangerous tanks and exploit gaps in the enemy lines to engage them from places they will not expect you to be.

Avoid going into close-quarters engagements even if your gun and reload speed are well suited because the lack of a 360° traverse can cost you greatly.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Hard hitting and accurate gun
  • Decently mobile hull (same as on the Object 120 but without the extra weight of the turret)
  • If the BR-412B shell is used correctly it can be more effective than the BR-412D which has more penetration but less TNT

Cons:

  • Weak armour overall prone to hullbreaks
  • Large silhouette
  • Crew is exposed to MG fire

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).
