F-80C-10 Shooting Star in the Garage.

The F-80C-10 Shooting Star is a Rank V American jet fighter with a battle rating of 7.3 (AB), 8.0 (RB), and 7.7 (SB). It was introduced in Update 1.33.

The main purpose, usage and tactics recommendations

General play style

The F-80's strength relies on its top end speed. Keeping the aircraft in a position to keep your speed or altitude at a constant point where you control the battle. The F-80 does maneuver well enough but you do not want to find yourself in a turn fight with it.

Vehicle characteristics

Tactics

The F-80 has an amazing climb rate if down tiered. To use the climb rate, go to at least 650 km/h stock, 700 km/h spaded, and climb at 15 degrees. You will be able to climb to about 4 km without dropping below 400 km/h. Use boom and zoom tactics to kill planes and cover bombers if possible (it has a good enough climb rate to intercept R2Y2s). Assuming an up tier, you can attempt to out roll the first MiG, but that's about it. Otherwise, stick to the clouds and help out teammates in trouble, you become a support plane for sabers. And if worst comes to worst, go head on, open fire at 1.5 km and pull off at 1 km.

Specific enemies worth noting

  • R2Y2: If you aren't paying attention, it can surprise attack you while climbing.
  • Me 163: The Me 163's ability to quickly speed towards friendly positions can catch the F-80C-10 before it could gain enough altitude to fight back.

Counter-tactics

Bring the F-80 low alt as it will waste much of their energy and then bring them into a turn fight. If in a mig, NEVER head on this plane unless you are a skilled pilot.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Good acceleration and climb rate.
  • Effective weapons.
  • Can outturn Mig-15's when the need arises.

Cons:

  • Relatively slow dive speed.
  • Average level flight speed.
  • Poor turn rate at 4-500 km/h.
  • Overall useless in a uptier, it is just too slow.
  • Just 100 seconds of WEP in RB, it is only there for emergencies.
