Tactics

This plane is the classic definition of the heavy bomber, it climbs slow, maneuvers poorly, but has ridiculous bomb load and great defensive armament. It carries enough bombs to take out a airfield in a single run, and can destroy 2-3 bases in a single run. That is if you can get there in one piece since you climb really really slowly. If attacked try and keep the enemy planes behind and slightly above you. Remember you are gonna be the target of every fighter in the game because of the threat you pose so try and get some fighter cover is possible. On realistic it is very hard to reload the plane as you have to belly land this whale to reload. If you are attacking a BV-238 remember that it's fuselage is completely empty other than the cockpit, so aim for the inner wings to damage the control surfaces, barring that go for the engines though you need to take quite a few out to hurt this beast.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Largest bombload of any German bomber at 5,000kg(11,000lbs).
  • Internal bomb bays mean that it suffers next to no penalty carrying bombs.
  • Bombs are dropped individually.
  • Most defensive guns on a plane (18!) 16 x 13 mm and 2 x 20 mm.
  • Defensive guns are all HMG or Cannon.
  • Defensive armament will deter most fighters from attacking you.
  • Practically immune to small arms fire.
  • VERY durable, gonna take a huge amount of bullets to bring one down.
  • Multiple engines so can take losing a engine or two and limp back to base.
  • Works incredibly well with MEC.
  • Can WEP for a decent amount of time before overheating.
  • Engines cool down relatively fast.
  • Low BR.
  • Somewhat decently fast for it's size.
  • Tail control is hard to damage.
  • Newly modeled cockpit.
  • Money making machine.
  • Can create a good amount of RP and SL when played well.
  • Low repair cost.

Cons:

  • Biggest plane in game, enemies cannot miss it.
  • No real armour despite structural durability.
  • Large caliber cannons will tear it apart.
  • Gun turrets tend to overheat quickly when controlled by AI gunners.
  • Bad ballistics for the 13 mm turrets.
  • Second worst manoeuvrability in the game following the TB-3M.
  • Poor climb rate.
  • No landing gear means in RB you have to belly land this behemoth to rearm.
