Description

Write an introduction to the article in 2-3 small paragraphs. Briefly tell us about the history of the development and combat using the weaponry and also about its features. Compile a list of air, ground, or naval vehicles that feature this weapon system in the game.

The 2pdr Rolls Royce (40 mm) on the MGB-61.

Vehicles equipped with this weapon

General info

Tell us about the tactical and technical characteristics of the cannon or machine gun.

Available ammunition

Describe the shells that are available for the weapon and their features and purpose. If it concerns autocannons or machine guns, write about different ammo belts and what is inside (which types of shells).

Comparison with analogues

Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns that have firepower equal to this weapon.

Usage in battles

Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against notable opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the weaponry in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark pros and cons as a list.

History

The 2-pounder Rolls Royce is the naval variant of the Rolls-Royce Type BH aircraft cannon. While first built for aircraft, it was never used in that capacity outside of testing as the Royal Air Force decided in 1943 that rockets such as the RP-3 were the better choice for aerial anti-armour weapon and before that, adopted the competing Vickers S. The Royal Navy, however, found a use of the design in 1940 realizing their coastal defense boats needed a weapon to counter German E-boats. In September, the 2-pounder Rolls Royce was tested off Whale Island by the Royal Navy and, after ironing out the problems, was adopted in 1941. Used primarily on the Fairmile C, it was also used on motor gunboats such as MGB-75 which were used to both defend the British coast and the Mediterranean Sea as an anti-aircraft gun. Because Minister of Aircraft Production Lord Beaverbrook forbade Rolls Royce from building the design themselves, the 600 guns produced for the Royal Navy were subcontracted to the British United Shoe Company. Replacing some of their earlier Oerlikon 20 mm cannons, the Rolls-Royce was itself eventually replaced by a variant of the Molins Class M, another design first built for aircraft use.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
